The Marketing Eye
We have all heard stories about the sixth sense of life, the third eye, but what is it exactly? Well, in real life, it could all be summed up in one sentence! It's that gut feeling, that intuition, that little voice that you want to follow, but in a way, can't. But that's real life!
Now, welcome to 2008! In the virtual world, the World Wide Web, the Internet, a sixth sense is your best asset. Why? Because that little voice isn’t speechless anymore. That little voice can now connect with other little voices and say exactly what it feels it wants to say. This has all been made possible with the Web 2.0. But what about Web 3.0? What's next? Can it go further, quicker, faster?
The answer is...Yes! Now, in 2008, Google gets an average of 30 billion searches each month compared to not even 3 billion two years ago in 2006. We are living in exponential times! It took 38 years for the radio and 13 for the TV to reach a market audience of 50 million people whereas it only took 4 for the Internet. It is now more important than ever to do good, to have a good reputation, to tell the truth, because if you do not, everybody will know about it. With Web 2.0, there are no rules! You just say what you feel like saying. Everything is possible and nothing is impossible.
So to gain and also keep a good online reputation, you need to understand marketing and especially online marketing. And to better comprehend web marketing, it is better to separate it into three steps: attraction, engagement, and conversion. to think about it… this is exactly how life works!
In reality, this is exactly what happens when you make contact with someone. Those three steps are to be expected if you want to have a good relationship with any given person. It usually comes down to building some respect for that person every step of the way. During the first contact, the first time you meet someone, that little voice that I was talking about before tells you something right away. Do you feel something good or not? Can it go further or not? If it does, you start building more respect for this person by exchanging ideas, interests, passions… you start some sort of engagement. And so, if everything goes well, after a while, because it always takes time to build a good relationship, then a friendship based on respect is developed. Building the ultimate relationship would be looking for more than just respect, which is called love. The deepest emotion!
As weird as this may sound, it is exactly the same for online marketing and it will become even more obvious as time goes on, especially with the predicted launch of Web 3.0 by 2010. In the graphic below, you can see an explanation of all the communication media that make this relationship come to life even in a virtual world.
